“This photo came from a Mandatory Golf Friday round that ran into SoCal’s seasonal Santa Ana winds. We’ve all played on days like this—the flagstick always gives it away. We snuck out after work to a small executive course, El Cariso, in the San Fernando Valley, tucked against the western edge of the San Gabriel Mountains. As cold air pushes in from the eastern high deserts, it funnels through the mountain passes and whips up wild winds in the valley—and they were ripping that day. We wimped out after nine holes. But by dragging the shutter to capture motion and a bit of chaos, the shot still turned out to be one of my all-time favorites.”
