Watch Houston Astros’, World Series-winning pitcher, Linksouldier, and all around nice-guy James Hoyt toss our Leather Head ball around and chat about his grassroots start in professional baseball, playing golf growing up, and perseverance through the ups and downs of one of the most head-game team sports there is.

James left college unsigned and started showing up to try-outs for independent teams unaffiliated with the MLB. He played for three different clubs in his first year and spent a season in the Mexican League before making it into the minor leagues. Then he fought hard in the farm system, doing impressive things like striking out almost 2 batters per inning in 2016, to make it into the majors with the Houston Astros last year.

James is a local transplant with exactly the Linksoul attitude: work hard and take it easy. We’re as happy to have him on-board as he was to take that baseball home, that’s to say, stoked.
